Stan State faces Cal State Monterey Bay in humongous CCAA series

The red-hot Stanislaus State baseball team is hosting Cal State Monterey Bay for a humongous four-game series beginning on Friday. The Warriors enter the week one game behind the Otters for second place in the CCAA North Division.

SERIES NOTES
Stanislaus State is 2-14 in the last four seasons against CSUMB … The Warriors have lost three straight against the Otters … Last Feb. 20's win snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Otters.

NO. 7 IN THE WEST
The Warriors are ranked No. 7 in the West Region in the first regional poll released by the NCAA. Top six teams in the region at the end of the regular season and the CCAA Tournament qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The rest of the top 8 in the West: 1. Chico State (30-7), 2. Azusa Pacific (34-8), 3. Dixie State (31-10-1), 4. UC San Diego (28-11), 5. California Baptist (31-15), 6.  Point Loma (24-16), 8. Cal State Monterey Bay (26-16).

EIGHT-GAME WINNING STREAK
The Warriors are currently in an 8-game winning streak, the longest since winning nine straight in early 2009 season (9-1 start and ranked No. 1) … During the 7-game winning streak in CCAA play, the Warriors have outscored teams 56-24 and is 14-14 in stolen bases … Team batted .282 with a 3.29 ERA during the hot stretch.

CCAA TOURNAMENT
The Warriors are currently in third place in the CCAA North, with a 1 1/2 game lead on Cal State East Bay. The top three teams in each North and South Division qualify for the CCAA Tournament, May 10-13 in Stockton … Stanislaus State is seeking its first CCAA tournament appearance since 2008. The Warriors also played in the 2003 CCAA tournament … 2008 was also the last time the Warriors appeared in the NCAA West Region tournament.

CCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Kron
was named the CCAA's pitcher of the week for last Friday's performance at Cal State L.A. He threw seven shutout innings and gave up just three hits with three Ks … Kron ranks third in ERA among CCAA pitchers with 50 or more innings pitched.

NCAA LEADERS
Charlie Gaff
leads the country with 0.45 sacrifice bunts per game and is second with 17 sac bunts (leader has 18) … Nick Voumard earned his 12th season on Tuesday, tying three other players for the national lead.

CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY (26-16, 18-12 CCAA) NOTES
The Otters won 3 of 4 games against Sonoma State last week in Seaside … Max Sanderson leads team with 47 hits … Three Otters (Sanderson, Myles Hager and Hayden Duer) have 30 or more RBIs. Hager and Duer each has seven home runs … Team batting average is .283 and team ERA is 4.35 … Kyle Narahara has a 1.27 ERA with a 3-1 record and 8 saves.
