Baseball to Host Central Washington in Four-Game Series this Friday-Sunday

TURLOCK, Calif.---  The Warriors will host Central Washington this Friday-Sunday, February 16-18 in a four-game non-conference series at the Warrior Baseball Field.  The series will begin with a 5:00 p.m. nine-inning game on Friday.  It will continue with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  The series will conclude with a noon starting single game on Sunday.  
 
STAN STATE SAAC BASIC NEEDS DRIVE THIS WEEK, FEB. 11-17
This week is the Annual Stan State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Basic Needs Drive.  The drive will run from Sunday, February 11th to Saturday, February 17th.  All donations will go directly to the Warrior Food Pantry. Let's help them PACK THE PANTRY!  Items acceptable for donations include the following:  1.) Canned items (e.g. vegetables, beans, etc.), 2.) Bagged/Boxed Items (e.g. rice, pasta, etc.) and 3.) Hygiene products (e.g. deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine products, etc.).  
 
All Items can be brought to the Athletic Office in The Fitzpatrick Arena or Student Services Room 136 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.  Warrior fans and fans of their opponents who bring a donation of three basic need items will be admitted to this week's respective home contest for FREE!!!
 
LAST WEEK:  Stan State went 0-2-1 in a rain shortened three-game series with West Region foe, Northwest Nazarene. The Nighthawks took the opener 4-0 on Friday afternoon as they held the Warriors to just two hits (one each by Alex Solis and Jerry Nix).  Stan State lost in the night cap, 7-3, on Friday evening.  Jacob Baker went two-for-three with a solo home run and run scoring double.  Tyler Van Dyk had a pinch hit double and a run scored while Chris Catalano drove in Stan State's third run.  The series finished in a 12-12 tie on Saturday afternoon as NNU had to make its flight back to Nampa, Idaho.  Four Warriors had multiple games in Solis (three-for-five, three runs batted in, run scored), Catalano (three-for-four, three runs scored), Flavio Perez (two-for-three, one run batted in, two runs scored), and Kyle Rachels (two-for-three, two runs scored, and a run batted in).  Trent Huff, Caleb Bertoncini, and Patrick Sweeny combined to pitch 6.1 innings, giving up five hits, four unearned runs, striking out six and walking one.  
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS' HITTERS:  As a team, the Warriors have a .256 batting average with five players hitting .300 or higher in Alex Solis (.444), Ryan Leonesio (.400), Chris Catalano (.389), Tyler Van Dyk (.333), and Jerry Nix (.300). Nix has a team high .700 slugging percentage and Van Dyk has a team leading .600 on-base percentage.  Solis leads the Warriors with his four doubles.  Jacob Baker, Robert Valdivia, and Nix each have hit a home run for Stan State.  JD Madrigal has the Warriors' triple.  Stan State has two stolen bases with one each by Leonesio and Baker.  
 
PITCHING STAFF: After the Warriors' first give games of the regular season, Stan State has a team earned run average of 4.91.  In at least five innings pitched, Trent Huff leads the Warriors with his 1.29 earned run average followed by Will Crookham's 3.00.  Tony Jacob has struck out a team high six batters.  Crookham and Austin Balentine have the Warriors' two victories. 
 
CENTRAL WASHINGTON: The Warriors will face their second straight NCAA Division II West Region foe from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) in Central Washington. The Wildcats are 2-4 after splitting their four-game series at Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend.  They are hitting .227 as a team led by Kevin Varner Jr.'s and Austin Ohland's respective .368 and .360 batting averages.  Varner has hit two of the Wildcats' three home runs.  Ben Leid leads them with five runs batted in and Ohland has a team leading four doubles.  
 
WILDCAT PITCHERS: Central Washington has a team earned run average of 3.12.  Pitching at least six innings with a team low earned run average of 1.93 is Alex Brady.  Nolan Milliman and Reid Rasmussen each have recorded a victory for the Wildcats.  Brady leads CWU with his 12 strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched.
