Baseball to host Cal State East Bay this weekend in a four-game series, March 22-24

Baseball Returns to Warrior Field for Four-Game Series with Cal State East Bay

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State returns home to Warrior Field after a four-game series at No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday-Sunday, March 22-24 to face Cal State East Bay in a four-game series beginning this Friday at 6:00 p.m.  The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday with the series concluding this Sunday at noon.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State enters Friday's contest with an 8-14-1 overall record and a 4-10 CCAA record after going 0-4 at No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Warriors lost 11-5, 12-1, 10-6, and 11-9 to the Otters.  They are hitting .292 as a team and have a 7.59 earned run average. 
 
STAN STATE HITTERS:  Five Warriors are hitting .300 or higher in Ryan Leonesio (.526), Chris Catalano (.425), Alex Solis (.378), Tyler Van Dyk (.333), and Robert Valdivia (.309).  Catalano leads the team with his 18 runs scored, 37 hits, 15 runs batted in, and three home runs.  Leonesio has a team high .684 slugging and .550 on-base percentages.  He is tied with Valdivia for the team lead each with three stolen bases.  Solis leads Stan State with his 11 doubles while Kyle Rachels has a team leading two triples. 
 
WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Austin Balentine leads the Warriors with his 3-1 record and two saves.  Tony Jacob has struck out a team leading 22 batters while Caleb Bertoncini has a team low 2.08 earned run average. 
 
LAST WEEKEND:  Even though they were swept by Cal State Monterey Bay, five Warriors hit .300 or higher during the four games in Jackson Brooks (.500), Tyler Van Dyk (.455), Chris Catalano (.400),  JD Madrigal (.333), and Jerry Nix (.300).  Brooks drove in four runs and Catalano scored five runs.  Catalano had a team high six hits including three doubles while Madrigal had two home runs.  Stan State was six-for-six in stolen base attempts in Robert Valdivia (two-for-two) while Van Dyk, Catalano, Alex Solis, and Jacob Baker each went one-for-one.  Caleb Bertoncini, Kody Cardoza, and Quinn Oliver each had a 0.00 earned run average in at least two innings pitched.  
 
11/7:  Danny Murphy has reached base safely in the last eleven Warriors games.  Chris Catalano saw his 17-game reached base safely streak snapped at 16, but he is on a three-game streak entering the series this weekend.  Ryan Leonesio has a seven-game hitting and reached base safely streak.  Alex Solis saw his nine-game hitting streak come to an end as did Tyler Van Dyk, Robert Valdivia, and Chris Catalano's seven-game hitting streak came to an end last week.
 
MULTIPLE-HIT/RBI GAMES:  Robert Valdivia, Alex Solis, and Chris Catalano each have eleven multiple-hit games.  Kyle Rachels and JD Madrigal each have four multiple-RBI games followed by the trio of Catalano, Solis, and Flavio Perez each with three multiple-RBI games.
 
AMONGST CCAA LEADERS:  Chris Catalano is in the top ten in the CCAA in four hitting categories in batting average (third, .425), stolen bases (tied for tenth, three), on-base percentage (fourth, .495), and hits (fifth, 37).  Austin Balentine is tied for fourth with his three wins and tied for sixth with his two saves.  Alex Solis leads the conference with his eleven doubles while Kyle Rachels has two triples which ties him for second.  Robert Valdivia is tied for tenth with his three stolen bases. 
 
CAL STATE EAST BAY:  The Pioneers enter this weekend's series with Stan State with a 12-12 overall record and a 4-8 CCAA record after being swept at home by San Francisco State.  They are hitting .308 as a team and have a 6.51 earned run average.  Five players are hitting over .300 in Mathew O'Mahoney (.386), Luke Dovitske (.372), Danelle Daniels (.362), Luke Brown (.323), and Brenden Bell (.304).  Quinn Ayres has a .368 average in 13 games and Sam Gillam is hitting .333 in 13 games.  O'Mahoney has hit a team high six runs and scored a team leading 23 runs.  He leads the Pioneers with his .648 slugging percentage.  Daniels is four-for-four and Jaylen Hodges is four-for-five in stolen base attempts.  CSUEB has stolen 23 bases in 28 attempts.  Gabe Tanner leads the Pioneer's pitching staff with his 5-1 record, 3.95 earned run average, and 31 strikeouts.  Drake Richardson has recording three of the Pioneers' five saves. 
 
SERIES vs. PIONEERS:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Pioneers 39-25 since 2008 including taking three of the last five games.  The Warriors defeated Cal State East Bay 12-2 in the first game of the CCAA Baseball Championships in Seaside on May 10.  Tony Jacob recorded the victory in the start.  Robert Valdivia was three-for-five with three runs batted in, two runs scored, a double, and a triple.  JD Madrigal was four-for-five and Mac Cabero was two-for-four with four runs batted in and a home run.  The two teams split the season series in Hayward.  The Pioneers won the first game 5-0, but Stan State came back and won game two 5-4 with Noah Chelberg picking up the victory.  Flavio Perez and Alex Solis each drove in two runs.  The Warriors lost game three, 3-2 in eight innings.  Tyler Van Dyk scored both Warriors' two runs.  The Warriors won the series finale 3-1 with Chelberg pitching 2.1 scoreless innings.  Cabero was three-for-four and Solis drove in two runs and was two-for-four.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's game with the Pioneers, Stan State will return to the road as the Warriors travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., for a four-game series with Sonoma State March 28-30.  Stan State will travel to Stockton on April 3 for a 6:30pm starting exhibition game with the Oakland Athletics' Single A affiliate Stockton Ports.  The Warriors will return home, April 5-7, to host Cal Poly Pomona.
