Baseball Travels to the Bay for a Four-Game Series with SF State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State Warriors will travel to San Francisco for a four-game conference series with San Francisco State, April 12-14.  The series will begin with a 3:00 p.m. starting game this Friday, April 12.  The two teams will play a noon starting doubleheader this Saturday.  They will conclude the series with a noon starting game on Sunday. 

WARRIORS:  Even though Stan State Warriors were swept by Cal Poly Pomona this weekend,  they are still alive for the six-team CCAA Baseball Championships. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive berth in the CCAA Baseball Championships at Cal Poly Pomona, May 8-11, with the winner earning the CCAA automatic berth to the CCAA's.  Stan State has 12 games left in the regular season four at home:  Cal State San Marcos (April 26-28) and eight on the road San Francisco State (April 12-14) and Cal State Los Angeles (May 2-4).

STAN STATE HITTERS:  Seven Warriors are hitting .275 or higher in Ryan Leonesio (.381), Chris Catalano (.375), Alex Solis (.326), Robert Valdivia (.308), Kyle Rachels (.306), JD Madrigal (.298), and Tyler Van Dyk (.296).  Rachels has hit six of the Warriors' 33 home runs followed by Jacob Baker with five and Flavio Perez with four.  Solis has driven in a team leading 21 runs and is tied with the team lead with 22 runs scored with Catalano, Rachels, and Solis.  Catalano, Valdivia, and Solis each have a team high 45 hits while Solis leads Stan State with 12 doubles.  Rachels has a team leading two triples and posted a team high .540 slugging percentage.  Danny Murphy leads the team with his .458 on-base percentage.  Catalano and Baker have stolen a team leading five stolen bases.

WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Austin Balentine leads the Stan State pitchers with his 4-2 record and two saves. Tony Jacob has struck out a team high 40 batters.  Caleb Bertoncini has posted a team low 2.32 earned run average. 

LAST WEEK: Stan State lost four games to Cal Poly Pomona this weekend at home, 5-4, 6-4, 9-1, and 8-4.  Four Warriors hit over .300 for the weekend in Jacob Baker (.444), Kyle Rachels (.417), JD Madrigal (.400), and Tyler Van Dyk (.333). Baker had a two-run home run and a triple.  Jackson Brooks stole two bases while Baker, Van Dyk and Rachels each had one stolen base.  Caleb Bertoncini had a 1.69 earned run average with a team high four strikeouts. 

SEVEN AWAY: Kenny Leonesio is 493-537-3 in his 22-years as the head coach at Stanislaus State.  Leonesio has coached 57 All-CCAA players, 13 West Region Players, 3 All Americans, 2 CCAA and West Region Pitchers of the Year, and 9 Warriors have signed professional contracts with Major League teams. His 2008 team's 37 wins is the most in a season in the programs history.

CCAA LEADERS:   Alex Solis is fifth in the league in doubles while Chris Catalano is ninth in average.  Austin Balentine is tied for eighth in victories and tied for ninth in saves.  Tony Jacob is tied for ninth in strikeouts. 

14'S HAVE IT: Heading into this week, three Warriors have 14 multiple-hit games in Chris Catalano, Robert Valdivia, and Alex SolisJacob Baker and Kyle Rachels lead the team with their five multiple-RBI games.  Baker is on a six-game reached base safely streak and Robert Valdivia is on a four-game hitting streak. 

SAN FRANCISCO STATE:  The Gators are 20-14 overall and 14-10 and are coming off their off week.  They are hitting .314 as a team and have a 5.42 earned run average.  Derek Leferriere leads SF State with his .385 average, five stolen bases, and .471 on-base percentage.  Justin Johnson has hit a team leading eight home runs while driving in a team high 43 runs.  He also leads the team with his 12 doubles and .624 slugging percentage. Johnson is tied with Jacob French for the team lead with 30 runs scored.  Ryan Garza and David Eichorn have posted four victories and Andrew Silva has a team leading three saves.  Garza has a team low 2.83 earned run average and struck out a team high 55 batters. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Gators 41-24 including going 6-4 in the ten last meetings and taking three out of four last season at home.  The Warriors won 8-2 in game one behind Jacob Baker's three-hit game.  They took the second game 3-1 behind Baker's two-hit game.  Stan State lost 5-1 in game three, but came back to take the series finale 4-2.  Four Warriors had two hits in Robert Valdivia, Flavio Perez, Alex Solis, and Kyle RachelsRyan Leonesio scored two of Stan State's four runs.
