Rohnert Park, Calif.- After taking the first game of the series Friday in a 12-inning thriller, the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team was swept in a doubleheader, 13-4 and 1-0, at Sonoma State University. This was the first time the Warriors were away from home this season and the Seawolves were able to capitalize on their home field.
In game one, the Warriors jumped out to a one nothing lead in the top of third as David Contreras scored on a fielding error. The Seawolves immediately bounced back scoring 3 runs in the bottom half of the frame. Sonoma would then put up runs in four of their remaining five times at bat. Warrior starter Matt Costa surrender six runs (three earned) on five hits in three and a third innings to take the loss. With the Warriors down 10-1 after five innings, Jake Thelen and Dante Palacios each collected RBI singles and the lead was cut to six. But again the Seawolves answered and eventually won by nine. Ian Bridges led the way for the Seawolves going three-for-five with two runs and two runs batted in. Dante Palacios had two runs batted in for the Warriors.
Game two was a much different game as only one run was scored, with the teams combining for 11 hits. Freshman Andy Stueve was brilliant for the Warriors surrendering only won lone run in his first complete game of the season. But the Warriors were never able to get on the board against three different Seawolves pitchers. Bridges singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, he advanced to second on a groundout and was singled home by Konrad Thieme. Stueve had four strikeouts and no walks while surrendering six hits. The Warriors had a chance to tie the game in the seventh when Dante Palacios got a two out pinch hit and stole second base. But the Sonoma State reliever was able to strike out Tom Long to end the game.
The Warriors fell to 5-3 on the season, while the Seawolves improved to 8-1. The Warriors will be back in action Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader vs. Oregon Tech at Warrior Field. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
