TURLOCK — Cal State Stanislaus scored five times in the first inning of the nightcap en route to a 5-1 to pick up a split in Saturday's doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino at Warrior Baseball Field.

The Warriors dropped the opener 11-0 as they were held to two hits by CSUSB's Cheyne Hann. But with the game two victory, Stanislaus improved to 24-9 overall and 16-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State San Bernardino is now 14-18, 5-14 in CCAA play.

Eric Federico pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap, allowing a double and two singled in earning the win to improve to 4-2 on the season. Federico allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight for the complete game win.

Federico got all of the run support in the first inning as the Warriors started the game on three straight hits. By the time the Warrior rally was over, five runs came across and the CSUSB pitcher Chad Borowski was in the dugout after recording just two outs in his start. Jacob Thelen doubled to start the game, David Contreras and Dennis Wolfe both singled and all three scored later to give CSUS a 3-0 lead.

In the opener, Stanislaus was held to just two hits by Hann — a Kyle Loretelli single in the second and a Contreras single in the sixth. Defensively, the Warriors committed four errors while CSUSB scattered 12 hits. The Coyotes chased CSUS ace Marquis Fleming after five innings. Fleming allowed eight runs on six hits for his first loss in six starts.

With the Warriors winning on Friday, Stanislaus is ahead in the series 2-1 heading into Sunday's finale, scheduled for a noon start.
