Stanislaus goes 2-0, advances to TOC Gold Bracket

TURLOCK — Tournament host Cal State Stanislaus went 2-0 on the final day of pool play on Saturday as the Warriors shutout Chaminade 5-0 and defeated Dixie State 5-1 to move to 3-1 for the weekend. The Warriors finished pool play second in their pool and will play Central Washington, winner of its pool, at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday in the Gold Bracket.

The Tournament of Champions is presented by Mizuno and is held at Turlock's Pedretti Park.

Against Chaminade, the Warriors used a four-run sixth to put away the Silverswords. Jenn Arnold pitched the five-hit shutout to earn the win as she improved to 7-9.

Alyssa Guzman scored in the fifth on a Jessica Scholl sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. CSUS then tagged on four runs in the sixth with Meghan Franksen and Casey Stephenson each driving in runs. Pinch-hitter Jackie Barcal also drove in a run for the Warriors.

"Jen Arnold threw a great game against Chaminade, defense was flawless and we had timely hitting. We got ahead early and had a rally...I was pleased," CSUS head coach Jan Schefkowitz said.

In the second game, Britney Borba went 2-for-3 and the Warriors capitalized on three Dixie State errors to beat the Rebels. The Warriors opened with two runs in the first on just one hit on a hit-batsman a single and two wild pitches. CSUS added three runs in the fourth without a hit and tagged on another score in the sixth with Alicia Reid scoring on a Kimiko Wright double.

"We are happy that we went 2-0. You can only control what you can control," Schefkowitz said. "I am happy that we did what we needed to do to put ourselves in a good position. Regardless of where we are tomorrow or who we play, we are going to come out tomorrow and play to win (the tournament)."

Jessica Gaumnitz improved to 11-4 with the win over Dixie State despite scattering 10 hits. She allowed three runs and struck out five in seven innings of work.

Cal State Dominguez Hills 7, Western Washington 0
Regina Faran pitched a two-hit shutout as the Toros blanked the Vikings. Katie Jordan went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Jennifer Frazier also had two hits to lead CSUDH.

Hawaii Pacific 5, Cal State San Bernardino 0
Ciera Senas went 2-for-3 and Courtney Kessell improved to 15-1 as HPU shutout the Coyotes. Jamie Lowe had two hits for CSUSB.

Dixie State 10, Saint Martin's 6
Haley Schumers homered twice and drove in three runs as the Rebels out-slugged the Saints. Carli Jones went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Dabney McIntyre had three hits for DSC.

Seattle 5, Chico State 0
Katie Antich and Heather Hansen had had two hits and Lauren Berin belted a three-run home run as the No. 13 Redhawks blanked the Wildcats. Erin Martin struck out five in the two-hit shutout for Seattle.

Cal State Dominguez Hills 9, Western Oregon 2
CSUDH pounded out 16 hits with Jodi Nakawatase and Jennifer Frazier each with three to dominate the Wolves. Christine Bathauer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Regina Faran picked up her second win of the day for the Toros.

Cal State San Bernardino 1, Chaminade 0
Ashley Collinwood was 2-for-3 and two CSUSB pitchers allowed just three hits in the shutout win for the Coyotes.

Humboldt State 2, Western Washington 0
Lizzy Prescott struck out 12 and gave up just one hit while Marissa Slattery went 3-for-3 as the No. 20 Lumberjacks shutout Western Washington.

Central Washington 7, Chico State 0
Linse Vlahovich fanned six and threw a four-hit shutout to lead the CWU Wildcats over the Chico State Wildcats. Holly Rossman went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for CWU.

UC San Diego 1, Dixie State 0
Allison May's seventh inning home run was the only score of the game in a pitching duel as the No. 10 Tritons edged Dixie State. UCSD's Melissa Ward toss a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts for the win.

Saint Martin's 7, Grand Canyon 2
Holly Morris had two hits, with a double and a home run, to lead the Saints over the Antelopes. Krissy Bassett also homered and drove in four runs for SMU.

San Francisco State 7, Seattle 2
Jordanna Freemer went 3-for-4 and Kelsey Wood was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Gators over the No. 13 Redhawks. SU's Erin Martin was charged with her second loss of the season as she scattered 12 hits.

Cal State Monterey Bay 2, Hawaii Pacific 1 (8 inn.)
Marisa Trujillo singled in Megan Luna in the 8th as the Otters rallied to edge Hawaii Pacific. After HPU took a 1-0 lead in the seventh, Monterey Bay tied the score with pinch runner Channing Peebles scoring on a Shae Olds single. Trujillo finished with two hits for CSUMB. Angela Cabral got the win with the four-hitter.

Sonoma State 9, Central Washington 5
Simone Brandalis went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Dani Lopez had two hits and drove in two to lead SSU over the Wildcats. Mallory Holtman went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for CWU. Shyrle Hawes homered for the Seawolves.

Humboldt State 2, Western Oregon 1
No. 20 Humboldt State edged the Wolves with a RBI single by Natalie Galletly that scored Chrissy Motzny in the fifth. Nikki Ketteringham homered for HSU in the third.

Western Oregon 5, Sonoma State 2
Tyler Sutherland and Trina Dorn each had two hits as WOU defeated SSU.

Grand Canyon 6, UC San Diego 1
GCU's Michelle Farrell held No. 10 UCSD to just four hits and surprised the Tritons with the win to win its pool. Tana Holtorf had two hits and Yasmeen Watkins homered again and drove in three runs to lead the Lopes. It was Watkins' third homer in two days.

Cal State Monterey Bay 8, Chaminade 0 (5 inn.)
CSUMB scored seven runs in the first en route to the dominate win over the Silverswords. Jill Artoff was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Otters.

Central Washington 5, San Francisco State 4
CWU's Mallory Holtman and Holly Rossman hit back-to-back home runs and the Wildcats held on to beat the Gators. Logan Mohr and Rossman each had two hits for CWU.
