ROHNERT PARK — Sonoma State, the No. 6 ranked team in the country, flexed its muscles on Saturday as the Seawolves belted four home runs and scored 18 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep over Cal State Stanislaus at Seawolf Diamond.

Konrad Thieme homered twice for Sonoma State, including a grand slam in the second game, to lead the Seawolves to 7-1 and 11-2 wins over the Warriors. Sonoma State runs its record to 39-7 overall and 23-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

For the Warriors, they are now in fourth place in the CCAA with 31-18 overall and 19-11 conference records. The series now shifts to Turlock with a twinbill starting at Noon on Sunday. The Warriors will have senior ace Marquis Fleming and freshman starter Andrew Stueve on the mound on Senior Day.

Despite out-hitting SSU, 10-8 in the opener, the Warriors managed just one lone score off SSU ace Matt Means. Means fanned 11 batters in 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing a solo home run to Adam Fonville in the seventh inning. Two Sonoma relievers allowed just two hits the rest of the way for the win. Means improved his personal record to 7-0 on the season.

Dennis Wolfe had three hits in game one with Kyle Loretelli and Fonville each picked up two hits. The Warriors, however, left 11 runners on base as Means got out of many jams with strikeouts.

Kris Haycock went 2-for-5 and also hit a home run from Sonoma State, a solo shot in the fifth.

Josh Lewis made his first start this season for the Warriors and went 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits, struck out six and walked four.

In the nightcap, Stanislaus starter Eric Federico gave up five runs in the third inning that included the grand slam by Theime. Gino Lavezzo also tripled in a run for SSU. Federico gave up seven runs on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out six and walked five to drop to 5-4.

Warrior reliever Jeff Harter came in in the sixth but Sonoma State never let up, scoring six more runs in the inning that included another home run — this time by Ian Bridges, a two-run jack.

David Contreras went 2-for-3 and Wolfed was 1-for-3 with a double for the Warriors in the nightcap.

With Cal State L.A. splitting with Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, the Warriors are now in fourth place, just a 1/2 game ahead of the Golden Eagles. Cal State L.A. completed its play this weekend while CSUS plays two on Sunday against Sonoma State.
