4/26/2008 3:14:11 PM

TURLOCK — The No. 23 Cal State Stanislaus softball team prevailed in game two again, winning the regular season finale on senior day, to earn a split against Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.

The visiting Coyotes used the same formula as they did on Friday to win the opener, 3-2, before the Warriors took care of business in the second game for a 5-2 victory. With the split, Stanislaus improves to 27-21 overall and 20-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, set to begin on Thursday, in Arcata.

Stanislaus will face the same CSUSB Coyotes again in the first game of the CCAA tournament on Thursday as San Bernardino locked up the No. 3 seed with the split. The opening game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

The Coyotes are now 32-28-1 overall and 17-13 in the CCAA. Host and top seed Humboldt State will take on No. 4 Cal State Monterey Bay.

On Saturday, it was more strong pitching by sophomore Jennifer Arnold in game two as she went the distance and allowed two runs on five hits for her third straight win. She got plenty of offensive help today with Alicia Reid belting a two-run homer to left for a 2-0 lead in the second. It was Reid's second home run of the season.

After CSUSB tied it up with two runs in the third, Stanislaus would go up 4-2 with a two-run fourth to grab the lead for good. Jessica Scholl led off the inning with a double and pinch runner Teresa Montalvo later scored on a Sarah Shamblin sac fly to left. Kimiko Wright then singled in Reid, who had walked following Scholl's at bat.

Scholl would drive in Arnold in the fifth inning for an insurance run as the senior catcher finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Wright went 2-for-4 and Reid drove in two scores on the homer to lead CSUS.

The opener was similar to Friday's game one with the Warriors taking an early lead only to see CSUSB rally back with a three-run fifth. With the lead, CSUSB coach Tacy Duncan brought in the hard-throwing Tawni Baker to shut down the Warriors, as she did on Friday.

Ashley Collinwood doubled in two runs with two runs and later scored on a Nicole Camarena single to make it 3-2 CSUSB. Baker allowed just one hit in three innings of work with three strike outs for another save. Collinwood also drove two runs in the nightcap.
