Turlock - The Cal State Stanislaus baseball squad scored 25 more runs today en route to a double header sweep of the visiting Academy of Art University, at Warrior Field.  With a 18-4 victory in game one and a 7-0 win in game two, the Warriors push their season record to 5-0.

Game one was highlighted by a strong start from junior lefthander Chris Short.  In his first collegiate start, Short went 6.2 innings surrendering just one earned run while tallying eight strikeouts. 

The Warriors got on the board first with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by a Casey Filkins double that drove in two runs.  The scoring did not stop after that inning as the Warriors struck for five more in the fifth, a single run in the seventh and exploded for a seven-run eighth inning.  The eighth inning featured a bases clearing triple from Thomas Shull .

Fred Atkins finished the game with three hits and David Contreras and Thomas Shull each notched three runs batted in. 

Game two was once again highlighted by a strong pitching performance as senior transfer Ryan Vander Tuig tossed a complete game shutout (7 inn.) in his first start for the Warriors, leading to a 7-0 win.

Vander Tuig used just 72 pitches to dismantle the Urban Knight lineup and keep control of the game.  He struck out nine batters while walking just two, and surrendered just two hits.

The Warriors struck in the second inning scoring three runs.  The inning was capped by an RBI double from shortstop Ross Gonsalves.  They added two more in the third and finished the scoring with two more in the sixth.

Michael Johnson and Casey Filkins led the way offensively for the Warriors.  Johnson was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Filkins finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

The Warriors are back in action Sunday with a single game to cap the four game series against AAU.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
