Stanislaus State Athletics

Mike Pittman was a standout on the men’s track and field team from 1978 to 1981. Mike was a national qualifier in the shot put and was an All-American in the event in 1981. He was a two-time conference champion in the event and held the school record for 20 years with an amazing 54-feet 4-inch mark. According to his former coach and Hall of Fame member Dr. Mark Erickson, “Mike was the first real solid recruit I brought in. I truly feel he helped get our program started". Mike was a music major and following college he traveled to Vienna, Austria to study opera.
