William Stokes is a five-time NCAA All American Athlete. In 1980, he was part of the NCAA National Championship 4x100m relay team. He was also the 100m and 200m Far Western Conference Champion. His Track & Field record earned him a spot in the 1979 and 1980 All Conference Team and his Warrior team named him team captain in 1980. William was also named the CSU Stanislaus Team MVP in 1979 and 1980. He received the CSU Stanislaus Top 5 Silver Anniversary Award.

His achievements did not end at Stanislaus. In 1980, he was an Olympic Trials Qualifier. As an amateur athlete William won 129 gold medals. In the World Police & Fire Games, he became World Champion in the 100m and 200m.
